Invading the Wye:

‘Wash Away camp’ (as it was called in the beginning) started in 2004, when Pastor Sean Leask (then youth pastor for carmel:centre) had a desire to give the young adults an opportunity to enjoy a week away and experience the presence of God in a new environment that was fun, safe and a great place to build friendships with their peers.

A bunkhouse near Snowdonia was our base in 2004 with just enough space to sleep our then small group of young people. It was a very enjoyable experience with trips to various places around Snowdonia, drives in the mountains and raft building at a near by activity centre.

Drawn to Wales again we found our permanent camp address in 2005 we had the privilege of baptizing several young people in the river Wye, which was a very powerful and precious time. This pattern continues every year and it is an honour to witness come rain or sun!

Since we started number have grown every year. In 2008 we hit just over 100 and we aim to continue to facilitate the camp’s growth. Our prayer is that the numbers will be a reflection of the young people’s heart to experience more of God so that they in turn can change their world for Christ.

Our kitchen team never fails to feed our bellies full of tasty food…not gourmet, but certainly energy boosting and good enough for seconds!

Camp has always been a great place to encourage team work but most importantly to empower the young people to encounter God for themselves. We undertstand that the young people cannot live off the faith of their parents, and many even ‘churched’ youth struggle with similar battles to those who come straight from the world. The underlying thread is very simply the need for a personal relationship with God, where they can worship of their own choice and hear God’s voice for themselves. This is the only thing that will sustain them for life. This is our heart beat for ‘Invading the Wye?’ camp and all our events and services since ‘The:Wash’ (our original youth ministry name) became ‘St. Revolution’.
